Cinema Paradiso @Grand Palais

A drive-in under the Grand Palais’ nave and a US vintage atmosphere? Obviously the idea had everything to seduce me.

So the day the tickets were put on sale, I sat in front of my PC right away and took two seats for the movie "Nuovo cinema paradiso".

And yesterday night my boyfriend and I went to the drive-in! 

Un drive-in installé sous la nef du Grand Palais dans une ambiance vintage US? Evidemment le concept avait tout pour me séduire.

Le jour de mise en vente des billets, je me suis donc assise devant mon ordi pile à l'heure et j'ai pris deux places pour  aller voir "Nuovo cinema paradiso".

Et hier soir avec mon amoureux, nous sommes allés au drive-in!

The film was wonderful, I have to admit I've never seen it before, shame on me!

And it’s this masterpiece who made our evening.

For the rest, well the Grand Palais remains this beautiful and magical place, but the organization of the event was really catastrophic: basically one queues all night long!

Le film était magnifique, j’avoue que je ne l’avais jamais vu avant, honte à moi!

Et c’est ce chef d’œuvre cinématographique qui a sauvé notre soirée.

Pour le reste, le Grand Palais reste ce lieu magnifique et magique, mais l’organisation de l’événement était honnêtement catastrophique : en gros on fait la queue tout le temps!

We stand in line for one hour to have dinner - indeed the cheeseburger was really tasty, but still…There were some old pinball and I looove to play pinball. Ok, it’s been probably 10 years that I didn't play, but I used to be very good. Anyway, yesterday I could not play either because pinball were either broken or there was too much waiting…And finally the endless queue to get into the drive-in area.

We had to watch the movie with headphones as on the other side of the Grand Palais there was the clubbing area. At the beginning, even with headphones, this was a bit annoying, but after a moment we got used to it and didn't hear the noise anymore.

The movie was really moving, we slowly got into the life of Toto, we dreamt cinema with him, we befriended Alfredo, and we got lost in this small village in Sicily… And everything around us was gone. That’s the magic of cinema! :)
Plus, yesterday was also Colette (a Paris concept store) night, which was pretty nice: there were a lot of people in the nightclub area and we met some friends to party with before the beginning of the movie.

Pour dîner on a fait la queue pendant une heure; certes, le cheeseburger était très bon, mais quand même… Il y avait des anciens flippers, et moi j’adooore le flipper! Ok, ça doit faire 10 ans que je n'y ai pas joué, mais jetais très forte avant. En tout cas, hier je n’ai pas pu jouer non plus car soit ils étaient cassés soit il y avait trop d’attente… Et enfin la queue monstrueuse pour rentrer dans l’espace cinéma…

Nous avons du regarder le film avec un casque car de l’autre côté de la neuf du Grand Palais il y avait la partie boite de nuit. Au début, même avec le casque, c’était un peu gênant, mais au but d’un moment on s’est habitué et on n'a plus fait gaffe au bruit. Il faut dire que le film était tellement captivant. On rentre petit à petit dans la vie de Toto, on rêve avec lui de cinéma, on se lie d’amitié avec Alfredo, on se perd dans ce petit village en Sicile… Et tout le reste autour n’existe plus. Voilà la magie du cinéma! :)

Hier soir c’était aussi la soirée Colette, ce qui était plutôt sympa : il y avait plein de monde dans la partie boite de nuit et on a retrouvé des amis pour faire la fête avant le début du film.

There were also plenty of Colette items created for this event in the shopping area, right next of all sort of US chocolates and sweets.

Il y avait aussi plein d’objets Colette créés pour cet événement à vendre dans l’espace boutique, à côté de tous les chocolats et confiseries américaines!

All considered, I’m not sure I would advise you to go to the Grand Palais drive-in… We had a super nice night, but especially thanks to the great film we saw, that really took us in another world, and thanks to Colette night too, that was cool and made us wait in a fun way till midnight, for the movie to start.

Compte tenu de tout, je ne sais pas trop si vous je vous conseillerais le drive-in du Grand Palais… Nous avons passé une très bonne soirée, mais c’est surtout grâce au film qu’on a vu, qui était super touchant et nous a vraiment transporté dans un autre monde, et grâce à la soirée Colette aussi, qui était chouette et qui nous a permis de patienter en nous amusant jusqu'à minuit, l’heure de début du film.
