Shooting in Milan

Behind the scenes of a movie

A couple of months ago, I've been contacted through CastingCallPro to know if I wanted to audition for some corporate videos.

I sent right away my video audition to the casting director & the client chose me! :)

So a couple of days ago I flew to Milan for a 2 days shooting.

Actress life when shooting abroad

I arrived at my hotel in Arcore, a small village in Milan's suburbs, on Sunday evening

Actress life when shooting abroad

& had a relaxing night in order to be rested & ready for the shooting the morning after!

Actress life when shooting abroad

Early morning, the crew pick me up & took me to the studio where we shot all day long.

Actress life when shooting abroad

We shot on a chroma-key green screen, meaning that I was playing with no background (plain green background) & all the background elements will then be incrusted in post-production.

Actually they used a new technology so the background wasn't really green, it was grey & there was a green light projected against it & on the camera the background appeared to be green.

I was also filming with no partner, I was alone & playing only my character without having the doctor in front of me.

And we were working with a prompter. I never used one before, I was a bit worried at the beginning, but actually it was ok.

The movies are training videos for medical students & I was playing a girl with an incurable brain tumor.

Despite the difficult subject, all the crew was super nice & I had a very good time!

After filming all day I felt the need to move & to change my mind though; I saw there was a big park not far from my hotel, so I went for a 40 minutes run. It felt so good!

The park, Villa Borromeo d'Adda, was beautiful & there were so many people running & exercising.

Running is not the sport I like the most, but I'm happy I started it as it's something I can easily do everywhere.

On my way back, I ordered a pizza - I was in Italy after all! - & watched an episode of Mistresses.

That I attacked after some pancakes & fruits, not the most Italian breakfast - nor the lightest one ;p - but I can't say no to pancakes ;)

Than back in the studio to film...

As we finished earlier & the company I was working for has got a big French client, they also filmed a video audition of me in French :)

So hopefully we'll work together again! *fingers crossed*.

And after those 2 rewarding & absorbing days, it was yet time to go back home; sad that the filming was over, but happy to find back my love <3

Weird casting calls

Hollywood sign

Film industry is a strange business, really. There are wonderful people in there, but also the weirdest one I ever met.

Some are serious some have strange ideas & crazy projects.

Just sitting at my desk, checking casting calls on the web, I come across the strangest requests.

Here some of the most weirdest casting calls I found lately ;)

  • Actresses accepting to shoot naked. They will pretend to sleep & let someone move their arms, legs & heads in different positions, without waking up.
weird casting call
  • An actress accepting to be deformed by plastic surgery operations (fake boobs, etc...). Honestly???!!
weird casting call

  • Extras who would accept to bathe in the Seine. Not in a clear, fresh mountains river... in the Seine! To be clear, the river running through Paris, a quite polluted place. Ah yes, and without being paid of course. Well, not that by being paid, I would accept to happily splash in the Seine.
weird casting call

  • An actress to play a girl who accepts to sexually obey to a stranger. Of course, du to the movie's subject, there will be explicitly pornographic scenes.
weird casting call

  • And, same kind than above, actresses willing to try some extreme situations shooting, e.g. naked scenes, sexual acts simulation...
weird casting call

Well, all that doesn't make one want to be an actress, does it?

Second (& last) audition for the Classe Libre at Cours Florent

Cours Florent, acting school paris

Second round of the audition for the Classe Libre at Cours Florent is done!

I think it went pretty well, anyway no matter the result, I'm happy this is over. I'm satisfied of what I've done & since I had the first round in February, it's already been way too long to wait for the second one in May.

Now I can tell you what I chose to prepare. I wanted something original for the jury not to be annoyed by always seeing the same scenes...

I had to prepare a dialogued scene from the universal theatrical repertoire from the 16th to the 19th century.
I must admit that I'm not very cultivated when it comes to classical theatre, but I found the universal theatrical repertoire on Google books and browsing it, I found several pieces of Favart, a French author from the 16th century, I liked a lot. I chose an extrait from "Les amours de Bastien & Bastienne" a comical opera. It's a very naive and cute love story between two shepherds and there's a curious "magician" who helps their love to triumph.
My friend Joce played the magician and I obviously played the little shepherdess Bastienne.

Cours Florent, audition Classe Libre

Then I had to prepare a monologue from the XXI century and I with no doubt chose the very funny monologue from "Pour quelque centimètres de neige", a play I was performing in a couple of years ago.

"Pour quelques centimètres de neige" comic play starring Umberta Gentile

Finally as I'm not French I had to prepare also a scene in my mother tongue. At the beginning I prepared a scene from an old movie "Agnes of God" translated in Italian. It was a monologue of an insane nun recalling her vision of Virgin Mary.
But two days before the audition I was feeling completely empty & tired of this monologue. So at the end I performed a monologue in Neapolitan from Eduardo de Filippo's play "Filumena Marturano".
(Note that Filumena is an middle age woman and if you want to perform one of her monologues, the only one adapted to a young woman is the "Madonne delle Rose" one. In this monologue she recalls why she decided to keep her first baby. In the play, when she tells this episode she is still middle age, but at the time when it happened she was a young woman, so it's easy to adapt).
It's a hard monologue, but I really felt it and I was very happy in performing it.

All in all I'm very happy with my audition.

Like the first round, there was not too much to wait (maybe 15 minutes), we were in the same room for the audition and as props in the audition room there's a desk & some chairs. Instead of one member, there were 3 people in the jury this time.

Cours Florent, audition Classe Libre

I was just shocked by the coldness of the jury. Especially a woman who asked me a lot of questions, one after the other, but really like if she didn't care. I was so oppressed by all those questions I forgot for a moment the name of the author of "Pour quelques centimètres de neige".

There were 3 people in the jury and they were more attentive to me than during the first round. Although in the first round jury was nicer and less speed.

Everything is really quick indeed, there is no time between a scene and another and one really feels the fact that the jury is in a hurry and one must change very quickly and waste no time in between the scenes.

Also they cut the dialogue scene before the end although it lasted less then the 3 maximum minutes required.
So I really speeded up then with the monologues as I didn't want the jury to stop me before the end, but it was a bit of a pity...

It's nice when the jury makes a candidate feel comfortable but it's not necessary... But here it was the opposite and that is unnecessary too.
Even Joce who does stand-up comedy and is used to competition was puzzled...

Also he told me one of the men in the jury was looking at me with what seemed great interest, so this should be a good point.

Anyway, let's wait and see what's next ;)

Cours Florent, audition Classe Libre

PS. End of suspense: I already received an email telling me I'm not admitted to the 3rd and final round.
I'm a bit disappointed... I really would like to know why or what the other candidates did... As I really think I did something good.
When I auditioned for the same thing some of years ago, I know that I wasn't well prepared, the texts weren't adapted to me and I was not that experienced...
But as of today I really would like to know...
Anyway, I'm not very happy now, but I'm sure better things will come...

Meeting Paolo Sorrentino

A couple of months ago, my Italian agent called me for a very important casting. It was the kind of call one doesn’t receive everyday
So one cold morning, without telling anyone, to avoid bad luck (yup sometimes my Italian origin re-emerges), I woke up before dawn, headed to the airport in the dark and secretly jumped on a plane to Rome…

airplane dawn sky

Before you get too excited, it’s better I tell you right away this is not a happy ending story… I’m not jumping all around, yelling « Yayyyyy I got it ! I goooooot iiiiiit ! ». Nope. But it’s an interesting story. Cause honestly, one doesn’t get to meet an oscar winning director everyday, right ?
Plus it’s a story that really conforted me about my acting skills :)

I arrived in Rome early morning, took the train to go to the city centre and use the time in the train to refresh my face - I woke up at 4 am so I needed some make up.

I was so prepared, I worked so hard for that audition, that I didn't even need to rehearse in the train... Honestly, I think I've never been so prepared!

I was just super happy and over excited, this is probably why, without thinking, I automatically put on some coloured lip balm, which turned out to be a big mistake: as soon as I arrived at the audition, the casting director started yelling at me because my lips were slightly pink, and what the hell I was thinking as I was auditioning for a nun role (which I didn't know because apparently the plot and the project was so secret that I couldn't have any information before the casting...).

The stupid lip balm didn't want to go away so eventually the casting director obliged me to wash my mouth with soap...

I think it's fair to say the audition didn't start well...

It went even worse - or that's what I thought: the first scene I had to prepare was a crazy girl who thought she saw Virgin Mary.
I did my stuff, and I must admit I was quite proud of myself... Except that the casting director told me to do it again and to tell the text with no emotion at all... ok I did it, but honestly... which is the point on working on a crazy character then?

After that, I played the second text, a woman going through the loss of his loved one, again with zero emotion.

And that was it.

"The Young Pope" Paolo Sorrentino audition

As soon as I was out from the casting director office I started to cry. I thought I did a bad audition and that the casting director obviously hated me and I wasted my big occasion to be in - drumroll please - "The Young Pope" an upcoming tv series by Academy Award winner director Paolo Sorrentino, starring Jude Law as the young Pope.

Jude Law The Young Pope

Still crying I had lunch with one of my besties (I lied before, I did tell someone I went to Rome and why, but only to my hubby and 2 girlfriends of mine), she more or less arrived to cheer me up a bit and in the afternoon I took the plane back to Paris.

So imagine my surprise when my agent called me to tell me that Paolo Sorrenting himself wanted to meet me!

I jumped on a plane, went back to Rome - did not put any lip balm in the train this time - went to the production company and ready I was to meet Sorrentino!

I didn't have to prepare anything for this audition so I thought maybe Sorrentino wanted actors to improvise or maybe he just wanted to talk with them to see if they can relate to the character (apparently Elia Kazan, Martin Scorsese and other great directors do that).

Anyway, Paolo Sorrentino arrived one hour late, and while me and the other actors were waiting, what really shocked me it was how the casting director and the other people were talking about him, almost with fear... Like if he was a powerful king and all of them the poor subjects... When he finally rang the interphone everyone was running around like "Paolo is here!", "Paolo is in the elevator!"... Have you seen what happens in "The devil wears Prada" the seconds before Miranda's arrival? You have the idea.

"The devil wears Prada" Miranda arrives gif

Paolo Sorrentino took a camera, put it at two inches from my nose, told me not to move and not to smile and started snapping pictures of me because he wanted to see if "I really was like I was in the video audition". He barely talked to me, but he acted surprised when I told him I came from Paris. He was like: "But you have other things to do in Rome right? You didn't come just to meet me?" Honestly. Does he even know what the job of an actress is?

After 2 minutes he told me "Do you know why actors love me?", I said "non" and he replied "Because I'm fast". And the audition was finished.

He honestly seemed to me a bit strange and haughty...

When I called my agent just after that, even the girl who answerd the phone seemed to talk to me differently because I just met Sorrentino and my agent was like "you saw how impressive is it to meet him?". I said yes to be polite, but honestly found everyone was a bit overreacting...
But I'm generally not impressed by famous people, I mean they're just other human beings, exactly like you and me, they just have much more experience and, sometimes, more luck...
I think that I could also play with Leonardo DiCaprio without being impressed... What I like about meeting or working with such people is that one can learn so much...

Anyway, in the end apparently I'm not like in the video audition as Sorrentino didn't take me for "The Young Pope".

No seriously I don't know why I hadn't been chosen. There may be so many reasons... But what i'm happy about is that after watching my audition, Paolo Sorrentino wanted to meet me, as if I was a bad actress he wouldn't have wanted.
And all in all it was a good experience :) And that means that my big occasion is yet to come... I just hope it won't get lost on the way ;)

Concours Classe Libre Cours Florent - Audition n. 1

acting drama school paris

As you know, I'm participating in the Classe Libre competition at Cours Florent. I had the first audition last week and then, if I pass this first step, I'll still have two more auditions to undertake.

I still don't have the results from the first audition, but I've already started to prepare the monologues for the second one, just in case. Otherwise, I'm afraid that if I'm admitted to the second step, I won't have enough time to prepare everything. I just didn't begin to work on the dialogue scene as I don't want my partner to work for nothing, if I'm not admitted.

Anyway, as there is really no information about this competition on internet (I searched for it prior to register) I thought I would tell you what to expect in case you're thinking to participate as well.
And if I'm admitted to the second or the third round, I then will tell you what to expect too.

Firstly, everyone can register, you don't need to have previous acting experience. I already tried the Classe Libre audition a couple of years ago and there was no age limit. As of today, the age limit is 35 years old.

There's a fee to pay to register to the audition of 78 €. This probably is used to cover the audition's organization costs, but as well to finance the training of the actors that will be admitted.
I think this is also a first barrier to select people that are really interested in this training, otherwise there would probably be much more applicants, which would register just to try and see.

For the first step of the competition you have to prepare a monologue from whatever you want: it can be a text from theatre, from a movie, a novel...

Plus this year candidates have to prepare another performance such as a dancing or music or singing... (last time, we had to prepare a newspaper article).

For the second step, on the other side, you have to choose a text from specific periods theatre, plus on the last step there's an imposed monologue for all candidates.

If you're not French, you also have to prepare something in your mother tongue, which is a chance, if you ask me, as you have an additional opportunity to show what you can do.

Try to choose texts that fit your age and appearance. And for the dialogue scenes try to find a good partner, otherwise instead of helping you, he'll have the opposite effect (and I know what I'm talking about).
I also just suggest you to prepare contrasting texts, where you can show different kind of emotions.

I prepared a monologue from "L'Etat de siège" by Camus - something really dark - a monologue from "When Harry meets Sally" - something bubbling and lighter - and a dance in which my character was kind of crazy.

When you arrive the ambiance is really nice and everyone is super kind, so that you feel good.
You have a separate room where you can change or prepare yourself.
Otherwise you can wait in the corridor in front of the audition room.

Acting Drama school Paris

You are called at a certain time for your audition, but actually there are 4 other people at the same time, so if you're not the first one you may wait a little. But it's ok as you cannot wait more than 45 minutes anyway, as the next hour there will be other people called.
I was the third one and waited about 20 minutes (yep, the audition only last 10ish minutes).

Also, I think that at the first step of the competition, they really look at candidates' physical appearance. I'm saying that, because last time they asked to girls to come wearing a short, little black dress, high heels and natural make-up.
This year, there is no dress code, but I think it's better to be dressed with something that makes you look good.

I wore a lbd, as anyway I wanted to be dressed in black for the first scene, and little make-up.

Also consider, that if you need to change - I had to change for dancing - you cannot go out the audition room and come back, you have to change in the room, so choose something easy to wear.

Finally regarding the jury,  at the first audition, there is only one person in the jury. He's a kind man who puts candidates at ease. It was the same person when I passed the audition last time.
But I remember from last time, that at the second audition there were 3 or 4 people in the jury and they were not really welcoming, it was not the same atmosphere.

Anyway, the man in the jury times your performances and stops you when you reach the time limit. So be aware of the length of your texts.
I've actually been stopped before the end of my first monologue. I timed myself at home and I thought it was 3 minutes (maximum time authorized), but it actually must have been like 3 minutes and 15 seconds so I couldn't finish and that was really frustrating.

Also, what was frustrating is that the jury watched more his iPhone (I think he was taking the time on the phone) than me.
And I was like "hey you, I'm performing for you, look at me!!".
It really irritated me, and at a certain point I really raise my voice (anyway I was playing a dictator so it was ok with the character).
And during the dancing, there was a moment where I was supposed to laugh and as I saw he was not watching me, I laughed rally loud, but he didn't raise his head...

The audition room is enough big that you can perform whatever you want. I was a bit concerned about dancing, but I actually had enough space.
But it's not that big and lights are not that blinding, so you can really see the jury very well.

Also, I didn't know what to expect on the floor (always worried for dancing). It was parquet and I could dance barefoot, it was not slippery.
It's really like a little stage, only it's not an elevated one.

Well I really have a good time at this audition. As I was not stressed at all, I could really enjoy performing!

And in the end, I think I did something good, as juryman seemed interested and asked me if I could play in English as well, who my agent is, where I was playing...

I'll let you know how it goes, for the time being, fingers crossed ;)

And if you need more information, don't hesitate to ask :)

Cours Florent - Concours Classe Libre

^ Here when my living room becomes a rehearsal room... ;)

I've been practiced for the Classe Libre audition at Cours Florent. I'll have my first audition in a couple of hours *fingers crossed* !

Cours Florent is a very well known acting school in Paris. They have a special program called "Classe Libre", that is a 2 years program, completely free for the 20 (over the around 2.000 applicants) lucky actors who will be admitted.

Many working French actors came out from the Classe Libre (and attention: they came out from the Classe Libre and NOT from the Cours Florent normal classes).

Anyway, I'm not really stressed. As I'm quite close to the limit age to be admitted, I don't really think I have a real chance to get in. As a result, I'm going to the audition really relaxed, that eventually is the best thing. I'm gonna do my stuff, have fun and then we'll see what happens next! ;)

Ok I'm gonna take a shower, get dressed and I'm gonna go! :D

Have a good day everyone! :)

Paris...

We arrived back in Paris two weeks ago, after spending one month in Australia... It was our wonderful honeymoon!!
We've been so happy, we discovered such beautiful places, view all sort of animals, met super nice people... it was a dream!
I was so excited to share all this and much more (I still have to share SO many travels and events from last year...).
But we arrived in a shocked Paris, we weren't there during the attacks, and thankfully all our loved ones are safe. But we still could felt the shock, the incompréhension, the unbelievable that was real...
I was scared to go out, the streets and the cafes were oddly empty. People were watching to each other strangely...
But now life is hopefully taking back the city again.
I felt lost, I didn't really know what to do...
I had previously accepted a role in the French web series "Les garçons de chambre" and shooting was last week. I drove to the set with my own car, I didn't feel to take public transports yet, I went to the make-up and hair corner, I wore my costume and I start feeling someone else...
Here a picture of me as the character :

I took a coffee, chatted with other actors, talked with the director, everyone was so nice and passionate... It felt good to be surrounded again by people like me, with the same dream and moved by the same passion... And then we went to the location. It wasn't an easy shooting: it was super cold, can't tell you where we were (I'm not allowed, to avoid spoiling the plot) but there was no heating, I was wearing a very revealing and short dress, it was raining, at the certain point the lights went off... But I was happy. And alive. I forgot everything else, I was just there, I was this other woman (can't tell you who - still not allowed to spoil the plot) and everything felt just ok again.
And now here I am, ready to embrace life to the fullest again, even more hungry than before!!

Acting update

Hello guys,

thought it was time to give you a little update about my acting situation.

It sucks.

All is said.

I couldn't have said it in a better or easier way.

Honestly, it's always difficult but in this period it's worse.

I had 2 theatre plays that were supposed to start this year. For the first one, we don't have a theater.

The second one "Le casting des anges" is already performing since last year. The writer and director  of it, André Castillo, hired other actresses, including me, to form a second and a third cast, so that the play could be performed at the same time in and outside Paris.

I started the rehearsals in November and I was supposed to be on stage end December/early January.
I was happy, the show is nothing exceptional, but it was very fun to play, we were supposed to play several times per week, meaning I would have been visible, and perhaps also made some money.

So I learned like 40 pages of an extremely reach text, worked on the character... And then André decided to suspend our rehearsals for a couple of weeks at the beginning of December. We were supposed to restart at the beginning of January. But then agian, André sent us - me and another actress - an e-mail to postpone the rehearsals to January the 18th.

And after that, I had no more news.

It's honestly a pity how people in the business dare to treat actors…

I obviously tried to reach the director, if we can call him this way, but he's not answering my mails nor is he returning my calls…

Anyway, I guess my adventure with "Le casting des anges" is over before it even started.

I think that André hired too many new actresses and he's actually not having all the proposals from theaters outside Paris he thought he would have. So actually he doesn't need us anymore... But still, he could at least have the decency to say it...
I mean, we were working for him, for free moreover! We believed in his play...

Anyway that's it on the theatre side.

And on the cinema/tv one is dead calm!
Though I'm answering everyday to all the casting calls I see...

Sometimes I'm tired of fighting so much for nothing...

Anyway, let's cross the fingers for better times to come - I miss being on stage!! ;)

Audition eavesdropping

So yesterday I was waiting for this audition for a marketing agency that organizes promotional tours for alcohol brands and for that is looking for actors, dancers, musicians…
Anyway, while waiting I listened to the girls chatting next to me and they were like: "So how are you? What are you doing at the moment?" and one replies: "I've almost finished recording my new album!" and the other one: "Amazing! Me too everything is so good, I'm working on this great film, I'm so lucky cause it's a big project…" and the last one was working on a TV series… And blah blah blah…
Suddenly, I was feeling kind of blue, as if everyone was working on big projects but me… Before remembering that the girls were auditioning for a promotional tour, like me! Lol!
Keeping on eavesdropping, I understood that the great movie was a short film and the TV series a student project… All in all, I'm not so bad actually! ;)

Today

Hello blog,
Hope you had a nice week-end, :) and wish a good week!
This weeks is gonna pass by really fast, I guess, as on Friday morning we're going to China and I still have so many things to do before...
When I was in Rome last month, my agent asked for new headshots so yesterday I took some photos with a photographer friend of mine.
The weather was so grey, but we managed to take the pictures before the storm arrived ;)
Here's a quick preview of our work!
Now I'm going to buy the last things I need for the travel (I just need leggings and ear plugs - I usually don't use them, but I read on many blogs and forums that walls in China are often very thin...), then I'm going to an audition for a promotional tour and as soon as I get back home I have to get through all pictures form yesterday (almost 1.000!!!) and send them to my agents so that they can choose.
Have a good afternoon! :)
Ps. I can't recognize myself in this last picture...It's so weird, I know it's me, but it doesn't look like me... ;)

Bonjour blog,

Io parlo da sola

I just had to lock myself in the office's toilets to record an audio simple for my agent who's working on a voice cast and needed a simple of my voice... Immediately!
I was worried that people could hear me from the hallway and think I'm a fool who talks alone ;))
Happily, it was lunchtime so the office was practically desert! ;p

Late afternoon update: they liked my voice and asked for my availability for next week... Fingers crossed! ;)
