Marrakech

Sunset in Marrakech, Morocco

I just finished putting in order my pictures of my trip to Morocco and that's just perfect to launch the travel section! :)
I discovered this beautiful country in February with my boyfriend and we had an unforgettable holiday in between Marrakech and the south of the country.
It was the first time I went to Morocco and I was expecting a very rich country, beautiful landscapes and a big change of scenery... but not so much! It was amazing!!
Only a couple of hours flight from Paris, we found ourselves in another world, full of unknown smells and flavors, with a huge variety of  panoramas: from snowy mountains to the desert, from the frenetic markets to the quietness of the canyons... People were smiling and cool, the food delicious and the sky blue!
Let's start with Marrakech, the city we landed in; I'll tell you about our little journey in the south in another post, otherwise there would be really too much to say in here!
Marrakech... In my opinion, the old town makes all the beauty of this city, a labyrinth of narrow streets in which it's pleasant to get lost. Everything seems exiguous and the sun passes through with difficulty, but then we just had to open one of the many, almost invisible doors to find ourselves in a place we couldn’t suspect the existence from the outside: beautiful, quiet, spacious and enchanted Riad... These hidden places have an incredible charm!

And the souks... what can I say about those fascinating markets in which I could have spent hours wandering around and where you can find anything! Moreover, I was told that sellers were annoying, but actually we have not been bothered at all, they left us watching all the objects for sale quietly and came to see us only when we had questions. Of course, to buy something in the souks means also to bargain, one simple rule – as the manager of our Riad taught me as soon as we arrived: to divide the price you're asked for by three and start the negotiation form there! ;) My shopping in Marrakech has been so successful that it deserves a dedicated post! So you'll have to wait just a little longer! ;)

Jemaa el Fna, the famous, big square in Marrakech, I didn't really like it. It's a huge square where there are snakes charmers, stands where one can eat, souvenirs sellers... But people are quite aggressive: we couldn't take a step without someone grabbing my hand to make henna designs on it or try to put a snake around our necks and as soon as I took a picture there was another one asking for money. And by nightfall, I found this place truly creepy.

However, I appreciated to sit on the terrace of one of the many cafes lining the square to drink tea while enjoying a beautiful view over the city.

But what I liked the most is probably Majorelle garden, a colorful haven of peace where you can walk among all kind of plants from all around the world! It was so beautiful!

The Majorelle Garden is located in the new city; for the rest this part of Marrakech is less exotic, we find the same brands than everywhere else: Zara, McDonald,... The architecture is less specific, but it changes from the Medina and it's another side of the city.
But wandering around the Medina is fascinating...
