Never forget how lucky you are & smile

I usually am a happy person, but this morning I was feeling a bit of a grumpy: I was tired as yesterday we rehearse until late night, my eyes were irritated, I didn't want to go to work cause it's too boring… you know, one of these mornings.
So anyway, I was in the subway reading one of those free newspapers and on the first page I read this beautiful story about this Chinese dad who travels 28 km a day to take his handicapped son to school. To poor to buy a car, he makes the journey on foot carrying his son on his shoulders in a basket. He wakes up every morning at 5am for his son not to be late for school.
His son, despite his handicap, he's the best student in his class. And the father is so proud of him.

While I was so lost in my non-existent concerns, this story really touched me and made me smile again. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are and we let the little, everyday problems affect us. I see too many people, including myself sometimes, doing that. Being tired, bored... with no real reasons. And then there are people who really have problems, who are less fortunate, but nevertheless face life with courage and good humor. It is these people that should be taken as a model and be thanked for the example they give us!
The days you feel grumpy, just smile and think of all the beautiful things you have and the happy mood will immediately be back, I swear. And the best thing is that good humor is contagious! So also smile at your friends, at your boyfriend/girlfriend, at the stranger in the street or in the subway... And everything will be better right away, trust me! :)
And for the record, the Chinese government has heard the story of the father and his son... And will lend them a house closer to the school! <3

  1. Wow, what an amazing story! I'd never heard it before now. Talk about A+ parenting! It does really make one reflect on all the things we worry about & how insignificant they are at times! :) Wonderful post & blog! Can't wait to see more! :D
